David Cloyd Emerges From a Decade of Silence With ‘Red Sky Warning’—A Stirring Ode to Love, Loss, and the Long Journey Back

After more than ten years away from the spotlight, Buffalo-based artist David Cloyd returns with Red Sky Warning, an album that reaffirms his place as one of indie music’s most enigmatic and emotionally articulate voices. Released June 6 via ECR Music Group and co-produced by longtime collaborator Blake Morgan, this body of work is more than a comeback—it’s a reckoning with time, purpose, and the enduring mystery of music itself.

The album opens with “Ocean of Hours,” a haunting question posed as much to the world as to the self: “Where did the time go?” It’s a fitting introduction to a project steeped in reflection. Red Sky Warning is Cloyd’s love letter to both life and sound—a record that treats creativity not as a career move, but as an act of devotion. “It’s a deeply mysterious love to me,” he shares. “Exploring it is not the search for an answer—for me, the exploration is the answer.”

Hailed by Apple Music, New York Magazine, and a growing international fanbase, Cloyd’s reemergence has sparked renewed attention across three continents. His name sits comfortably alongside the likes of Radiohead, Nick Drake, Jeff Buckley, and Beck, but his voice—delicate, deliberate, and emotionally unflinching—remains entirely his own.

The album’s release follows three widely streamed singles and arrives with a legacy already in motion. Cloyd’s early work, including the cult-acclaimed Unhand Me, You Fiend!, found unexpected success after being recorded in a 9×9 Brooklyn apartment and propelled by eMusic chart-topping momentum and placements on MTV. Since then, life led him to Buffalo, where he became a cornerstone of the city’s music scene—founding Hook & Ladder Records, mentoring emerging artists, and serving as ECR’s VP of Creative Operations.

Red Sky Warning is both return and renewal, channeling past brilliance into present fire. It’s not just that David Cloyd is back. It’s that he never really left—he’s been quietly building something lasting, and now, it’s time we hear it.
