After a seven-year hiatus, Canadian rock duo Japandroids have returned with a new single, “Chicago,” off their upcoming final album, Fate and Alcohol.

The track, released on August 4th, showcases the band’s signature raw energy and anthemic sound. It’s a nostalgic ode to the city of Chicago, with lyrics that paint a vivid picture of the band’s experiences there. Lead singer Brian King’s gritty vocals and David Prowse’s driving drums create a sense of urgency and longing, perfectly capturing the essence of the city.

In a statement, the band explained the inspiration behind the song: “We’ve always had a special connection to Chicago, from our early days playing small clubs to our last tour before our hiatus. It’s a city that has always welcomed us with open arms and we wanted to pay tribute to that.”

“Chicago” is the first single off Japandroids’ upcoming album, Fate and Alcohol, which is set to be released on October 22nd. The album will mark the band’s fourth and final studio album, following their critically acclaimed 2017 release, Near to the Wild Heart of Life.

Fans have eagerly awaited new music from Japandroids, who have been on a hiatus since 2018. The duo announced their return earlier this year, along with the news that Fate and Alcohol would be their last album.

In a statement, the band shared their bittersweet feelings about the album: “We poured our hearts and souls into this record, and we can’t wait for our fans to hear it. It’s a bittersweet feeling to be releasing our final album, but we’re proud of what we’ve created and we hope it resonates with our fans.”

Japandroids formed in 2006 in Vancouver, British Columbia, and quickly gained a following with their energetic live performances and raw, punk-influenced sound. Their music has been praised for its honest and relatable lyrics, as well as its ability to capture the essence of youth and rebellion.

With “Chicago,” Japandroids have once again proven their ability to create powerful and memorable music. Fans can look forward to hearing more from the band when Fate and Alcohol is released in October.
