Freight Capture Youthful Chaos And Indie Charm On Anthemic Debut Single “ME”

Warrington’s newest teenage band arrives loud, messy, and unforgettable with a debut that feels like a mistake worth repeating

Sometimes the right band name is born from a misunderstanding, and sometimes the best debut songs come from happy accidents. For FREIGHT, the teenage four-piece hailing from Warrington, England, both are true. What began as a casual open mic performance quickly turned into a full-blown festival promise—and within weeks, Luka, Ted, Jacob, and Anton formed a band, booked their first gig at Pickfest, and set off on a run of shows across the north of England. Now, their debut single “ME”, released June 4th, kicks open the door with the kind of raw energy and irreverent heart that only a band formed out of friendship and impulse can deliver.

Built on a backbone of jangly indie riffs and chaotic charm, “ME” is a soundtrack to teenage late nights and last-minute plans. “I was trying to learn a song by The Vaccines,” frontman Luka explains, “and I played it completely wrong—but that ended up being the start of ‘ME’.” The track’s infectious hook was born out of another mistake in the studio—producer Gaz chopping up an idea and misplacing it in the sequence—only for the band to decide it sounded even better that way. It’s a fitting story for a debut that thrives in spontaneity and thrives even more in not taking itself too seriously.

Drawing influence from classic indie staples like The Vaccines, Catfish and the Bottlemen, and The K’s (who they’ll be joining at Newton Festival this August), FREIGHT’s debut is an unapologetically youthful burst of guitars, sweat, and unfiltered emotion. It doesn’t aim to redefine indie—but instead reminds us why we fell for it in the first place.

With their first EP Kaleidoscope on the way and a summer schedule already filling up, FREIGHT are carving their own path one chord and coincidence at a time. And if “ME” is any indication, their missteps might just be their biggest strengths.
