Dublin-based rock artist channels the echoes of past battles and timeless questions into a fierce, adrenaline-fueled debut
In a city known for its storytellers, Ultan is carving a new path—one where rock riffs collide with historical reflection, and adrenaline meets introspection. With the release of his debut single “The Tempest” on June 1st, 2025, the Dublin-based artist introduces himself as both a sonic force and a lyrical thinker. It’s a track that pulses with urgency while pausing long enough to ask: What does it mean to be caught in the storm of history?
Recorded at Pirate Studios in north Dublin, “The Tempest” builds from the ground up—starting with a foundational bass line, then layered with drums, searing guitar, and ultimately Ultan’s commanding vocal. This methodical approach gives the track its dynamic shape: sharp, deliberate, and full of texture. The main riff drives forward with frenetic intensity, while the atmospheric break creates a moment of haunting contrast. It’s not just a song—it’s a march into uncertainty, a meditation on resolve.
Ultan draws his lyrical inspiration not from fantasy, but from the brutal and complex realities of European and Irish history. “I’ve always been interested in how one significant event can alter world history,” he says. “Each warrior was a unique human being with an extended family. How did they feel as the battle approached? Did they think their sacrifice would mean anything?” This human-centered approach to historical narrative gives “The Tempest” its thematic weight—balancing raw energy with reflective depth.
Though this marks his debut release, “The Tempest” is part of a longer vision. Ultan is currently building an online presence while preparing for eventual live performances in Dublin, where original artists still face hurdles in a scene dominated by cover bands. “Momentum is building toward the live show stage,” he says. “Get in early and stay for the long ride.”
With more singles on the way and a distinct blend of intellect and instinct, Ultan is not just another new act—he’s an artist whose music invites listeners into the eye of the storm and dares them to stay.
