Indie folk band The Mountain Goats have announced the reissue of their 2000 album, The Coroner’s Gambit. The album, which has been out of print for many years, will be released on vinyl, CD, and cassette.
The Coroner’s Gambit was the band’s fourth studio album and was originally released on Absolutely Kosher Records. It was recorded on a boombox by frontman John Darnielle and features a mix of lo-fi acoustic tracks and more polished studio recordings.
The reissue will include all 13 original tracks, as well as a bonus track, “Cobscook Bay,” which was previously only available on a limited edition 7-inch. The album will also feature new artwork and liner notes written by Darnielle.
In a statement, Darnielle said, “I’m thrilled to see The Coroner’s Gambit back in circulation. It’s an album that holds a special place in my heart and I’m excited for fans to have the opportunity to hear it again.”
The Mountain Goats have been steadily gaining a cult following since their formation in 1991. Led by Darnielle, the band has released over 20 albums and has become known for their raw and emotional lyrics, often drawing inspiration from Darnielle’s personal experiences.
The Coroner’s Gambit reissue is set to be released on October 23, 2020, and is available for pre-order now. Fans can also look forward to a limited edition colored vinyl version, which will be available exclusively through the band’s website.
