LCD Soundsystem fans have been eagerly awaiting news of a new album, and while the band has officially released a new single, frontman James Murphy has clarified that there is still no finished LP.
The new single, “X-Ray Eyes,” was released on Friday, but Murphy took to social media to address rumors that a new album was imminent. “No, there’s no finished LP yet,” he wrote on Instagram. “There are some songs, but they’re not done, and there’s no schedule for finishing them.”
Murphy also addressed a statement made by the Primavera Festival, which claimed that the new album was “imminent.” “Anything else you hear is bullshit speculation,” he stated.
Fans have been eagerly anticipating a new album from LCD Soundsystem since their reunion in 2016. The band’s last album, American Dream, was released in 2017 and received critical acclaim. Since then, they have released a few singles, but there has been no official announcement of a new album.
Despite the lack of a finished LP, Murphy assured fans that the band is still working on new music. “We’re working on it, and when it’s done, you’ll know,” he wrote. “Until then, anything else is just speculation.”
LCD Soundsystem is set to perform at several festivals this summer, including Bonnaroo and Pitchfork Music Festival. Fans can expect to hear “X-Ray Eyes” and possibly other new songs during their performances.
In the meantime, fans can enjoy the new single and hold onto the hope that a new album will be released in the near future. But for now, Murphy’s message is clear: there is no finished LP yet, and any news of a new album should be taken with a grain of salt.
