Acclaimed multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and songwriter Janita returns with her electrifying new single, “Real Deal,” released on November 21, 2024. This track marks the first glimpse of her highly anticipated tenth studio album, Mad Equation, set to drop in May 2025. Produced and co-created with Blake Morgan (Lenny Kravitz, Lesley Gore), the single showcases Janita’s signature blend of artistry, rebellious spirit, and genre-defying sound.
“Real Deal” draws inspiration from cinematic classics The 400 Blows and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. “I identify with the rebellious nature of the characters in those films—living life off the grid, doing something that doesn’t make traditional sense to most,” Janita explains. This sense of defiance and purpose is woven into the track’s fabric, reflecting her journey as an artist who consistently challenges norms and carves her own path.
The forthcoming album, Mad Equation, explores themes of unpredictability and self-discovery, with its title referencing a mathematical formula used to measure unpredictability. “People have tried to figure me out over the years—am I the Finnish pop star, the blonde soul singer, the American alternative rocker? Maybe I’m a mad equation for some. Well, with this record, problem solved,” says Janita with her trademark wit.
