A Synth-Pop Reverie Born from Farmhouse Solitude and Summer Love
New York-based producer, pianist, and composer Harris Mac unveils his latest single, “Astral”—a shimmering blend of nostalgic synths, sunlit memories, and tender reflection. The track, lifted from his upcoming full-length album Oneonta, stands as both a sonic departure and a deeply personal meditation on rebirth, nature, and romance.
At the heart of “Astral” lies the warm pulse of Harris’ Roland Juno 60 synthesizer, which anchors the song’s lush, dreamlike atmosphere. Originally conceived as an instrumental, the track gradually transformed into a lyrical portrait of a fleeting but powerful connection that blossomed—and unraveled—during a season of self-discovery in upstate New York.
Having stepped away from the frenetic rhythms of Brooklyn’s nightlife, Harris relocated to a historic farmhouse in Oneonta to work on an herb farm and reconnect with the land. “I wanted peace,” he shares, “to get my hands in the soil and create in silence.” That retreat bore more than just creative clarity—it also sparked a romance that would leave a lingering imprint on his heart and his music.
“I met a girl there who I fell in love with,” Harris says. “After we split, every time I worked on the song I could still feel that magic summer—running through the woods, playing in the river. It was heartbreak wrapped in golden light, and I wanted to preserve that.” The result is “Astral”—a track that resonates with wistful intimacy and emotional complexity.
As with much of Harris Mac’s work, the theme of transformation pulses just below the surface. His trajectory—from early days as a rapper to his evolution as a self-taught pianist and producer—is mirrored in “Astral’s” graceful shift from instrumental to vocal. It’s music as memory, as process, as healing.
“Astral” is now streaming on all major platforms. For fans of neo-soul, 80s synth-pop, and emotionally rich production, this is Harris Mac at his most luminous.
