Art Garfunkel recently opened up about his emotional reunion with former musical partner Paul Simon. The two had not performed together since 2010, but came together for a special event in New York City.
Garfunkel shared that there were tears during their reunion, as he felt remorse for any hurt he may have caused Simon in the past. The two had a tumultuous relationship, with Garfunkel often feeling overshadowed by Simon’s songwriting and success.
“I was crying at a certain point because I felt that I had hurt him,” Garfunkel said. “Our relationship has always been complicated, but I have a deep love and respect for Paul and our music together.”
The reunion took place at a private event in New York City, where the two performed a few of their classic hits, including “Bridge Over Troubled Water” and “The Sound of Silence.” Garfunkel shared that the audience was moved by their performance and the chemistry between them was still strong.
“We may have had our differences in the past, but when we come together to make music, it’s like magic,” Garfunkel said. “The audience could feel it and it was a beautiful moment for both of us.”
Garfunkel and Simon rose to fame in the 1960s as the folk-rock duo Simon & Garfunkel. They released several hit albums and singles, including “Mrs. Robinson” and “Cecilia.” However, their relationship became strained and they eventually went their separate ways in the early 1970s.
Despite their differences, Garfunkel and Simon have remained friends and have occasionally performed together over the years. However, this recent reunion seemed to hold a special significance for both of them.
“I think we both realized how much our music means to people and how much it means to us,” Garfunkel said. “It was a beautiful moment of reconciliation and I’m grateful for it.”
Garfunkel also hinted at the possibility of future collaborations with Simon, saying that they have always had a special connection through their music.
“Who knows what the future holds, but I know that our music will always bring us back together,” Garfunkel said. “I’m looking forward to whatever comes next.”
