Vancouver-based indie folk-pop artist Micae returns with her heartfelt new single “Blackberries,” released on April 11, 2025, across all major streaming platforms. With its wistful tone and evocative imagery, “Blackberries” captures the lingering beauty of memory, love, and the quiet moments that stay with us long after a relationship has ended.
The song began as a writing exercise suggested by co-lyricist Claire Miller-Harder, encouraging Micae to explore songwriting through visual imagery. Inspired by a walk through familiar places and reflections on a past relationship, Micae wove together fleeting observations into the deeply personal narrative that became “Blackberries.” As she explains, “I wanted ‘Blackberries’ to explore how love lingers even as time moves on. It’s a song about remembering someone who’s left an imprint on your heart and reconciling with the part of you that’s still connected to them.”
One particularly poignant image drives the song’s emotional core: frozen berries, saved to share but ultimately left behind after a breakup. It’s a simple yet powerful symbol of the love that remains even when life moves forward.
Micae’s background as a classically trained vocalist and her experience as a music therapist supporting neurodivergent youth bring depth and authenticity to her music. In addition to her musical career, she is currently pursuing an MA in Education, focusing her research on how autistic students use technology to access education equitably. Her upcoming debut full-length album, It All Looks A Little Different Now, promises to further explore themes of feminism, justice, forgiveness, and love, blending indie folk-rock sounds with touches of country longing.
“Blackberries” is now available on Spotify, Apple Music, and all major digital platforms. Follow Micae for more heartfelt music and updates as she continues to craft songs that connect deeply with listeners.
