The Toronto singer, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, took to Instagram to share a foreword he wrote for Jones’ 2021 book, “Quincy Jones: His Life in Music.” In the foreword, The Weeknd expressed his admiration for Jones and the impact he had on his own music career.
“Quincy Jones is my idol. He is a true legend and a pioneer in the music industry,” The Weeknd wrote. “His talent and creativity have inspired me since the beginning of my career, and I am forever grateful for his influence on my music.”
The Weeknd went on to praise Jones for his versatility and ability to transcend genres, stating, “He has worked with some of the greatest artists of all time and has left an indelible mark on every genre of music. From jazz to pop to hip hop, Quincy has done it all and has done it with unmatched talent and passion.”
The singer also shared a personal anecdote about meeting Jones for the first time and how it was a surreal experience for him. “I remember the first time I met Quincy.
