The Kendrick-Drake beef has been a hot topic in the music industry for years, with fans and critics constantly speculating about the rivalry between the two artists. But now, the feud has taken on a new form – a viral video game.
Not Like Us: The Game, created by musician and developer Richie Branson, has gained attention for its unique concept of pitting Kendrick Lamar against Drake in a virtual world. The game features Lamar as the protagonist, armed with a baseball bat, taking on Drake’s owl mascot and his minions.
But Branson insists that the game is not meant to fuel the feud between the two artists. In fact, he says it’s all in good fun and not meant to be taken seriously.
“I’m a huge fan of both Kendrick and Drake, and I wanted to create something that would bring their fans together rather than divide them,” Branson explains. “The game is a satirical take on the beef and is not meant to be taken as a personal attack on either artist.”
Branson, who is also a rapper and producer, has been a fan of video games since childhood and has always been interested in merging his love for music and gaming. Not Like Us: The Game is his first foray into the world of game development, and it has already gained a lot of attention.
The game’s popularity can be attributed to its clever use of references to the Kendrick-Drake beef, as well as its addictive gameplay. Players control Lamar as he navigates through different levels, facing off against Drake’s owl and his minions, which include references to Drake’s hit songs like “Hotline Bling” and “God’s Plan.”
But Branson is quick to point out that the game is not just about the beef. “I wanted to incorporate elements of both artists’ music and personalities in the game, but ultimately, it’s about having fun and enjoying the music,” he says.
The game has also received praise for its retro-style graphics and soundtrack, which features original music by Branson himself. It has been downloaded thousands of times since its release and has gained a cult following among fans of both artists.
While the Kendrick-Drake beef may never truly be resolved, Not Like Us: The Game serves as a lighthearted reminder that music should bring people together, not tear them apart. And for Branson, it’s just the beginning of his journey into the world of game development.
“I hope to continue creating games that merge my love for music and gaming, and who knows, maybe one day I’ll even collaborate with Kendrick and Drake on a game,” he says with a laugh. “But for now, I’m just happy to see people enjoying Not Like Us: The Game and having a good time.”
